First Class – Room 7
January has been a very busy month in Room 7. After the excitement of Christmas, we were all very happy to get back to school. The past month has been filled with lots of fun, games and hard work.
We were delighted to find out that we would be having GAA skills every Tuesday for the next six weeks. We have had loads of fun with our coaches learning how to bounce, kick and catch the ball. We will all be fantastic Gaelic players by the end of it!
Fun and Games
We have started to do jigsaws in the mornings before we start our work. Some of them are quite difficult and we all work together as a team to get them completed.
We learned about Space and Planets in our English book and we used chalk and black paper to create our very own solar system. We also learned the ‘Solar System Rap’ and this helped us to remember the names of the planets. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHAqT4hXnMw
In Maths, we have been learning about length. We went on a ‘measuring trip’ around the school and classroom and discovered that there are many different ways to measure. We used a metre stick, a ruler, a trundle wheel, string and hand spans. We discovered that our school yard is 19 metres long and 30 metres wide.
